Survey results of Japanese people: People who check the SNS of their ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends
When a relationship ends and many couples break up, it is not uncommon for them to follow the changes in their ex-lovers' lives. Even after breaking up, everyone experiences that there are people who check the SNS of their ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends.
A Japanese company conducted a survey on this phenomenon. This survey was conducted on the theme of "How often do you check the SNS of your ex-lover?"
In the current lifestyle, many people record the events of their lives on SNS. Therefore, if you search the name of your ex-lover online, you can easily get the latest information. "SEO Chiebukuro" is a Japanese online search engine optimization portal site. This site conducted a survey on Japanese people on the theme of "Do you look at the SNS of your ex-lover?" The survey period was from October 9 to 21, 2024, and 300 men and 300 women were surveyed.
In response to the first question, "Have you ever searched for the name of your ex-lover on the Internet?", about 30% of the respondents answered "Yes". Specifically, 28.3% of women and 29.3% of men were affected.
Next, when asked how they searched, 64.7% answered "using Internet search engines such as Google," followed by "Facebook" (32.4%), "Instagram" (20.2%), "Twitter" (13.3%), and "other" (1.7%).
The following answers were given to the reasons for checking the social media profiles of ex-partners:
- "I still have good feelings for him, so I want to know what he's doing now."
- "I want to know how he lives his life."
- "I want to know if he has a new girlfriend."
- "I want to know if he's living happily."
- "I was searching for something completely different, but suddenly my ex-partner's name popped into my mind, so I looked it up."
Despite the many search methods, only 41% of searchers were able to find their ex-partner's social media profiles. The impressions of those who found their ex-partner's social media profiles and their feelings afterwards are as follows.
- "I'm glad he's doing well."
- "It's sad that he seems to live in a completely different world from me."
- "I'm glad to see that he's working hard at his new job, but I'm worried when I see him complaining about various things on social media."
- "It's really sad that he seems to have forgotten about me."
- "I'm glad that I broke up with him."
- "It seems that he's achieved the dream he talked about when we were dating, and I'm happy and proud of him."
These survey results show that many people feel a variety of emotions when they check their ex-lovers' social media even after breaking up.
