1. Fushimi Inari Taisha
Considered Japan's main Inari shrine, the Fushimi Inari Taisha in Kyoto is one of the great places to see fox statues. With a seemingly endless stretch of tunnel with about 10,000 red torii gates, it has become one of the must-see tourist attractions in Japan. If you follow the winding trails here, you'll reach the top of Mount Inari in about an hour and a half.

2. Kasama Inari Temple
Kasama Inari Shrine in Ibaraki dates back more than 13 centuries and is one of the three largest Inari shrines in Japan. Although it doesn't have as many torii gates as Fushimi Inari Taisha, its impressive architecture still attracts more than 3.5 million visitors from all over the world every year.

3. Toyokawa Inari Shrine
Upon entering the grounds of Toyokawa Shrine, you will be attracted by the traditional torii gate and the two Nio Buddhist guardian deities. Surprisingly, this Toyokawa Inari shrine in Aichi Prefecture is both a Shinto shrine and a Buddhist shrine.

4. Motonosumi Temple
Motonosumi Shrine is not known to many tourists and is located in Northern Yamaguchi Prefecture, near Kyushu. The temple is said to have been built in 1955 and worships an inari white fox with about 123 traditional torii gates leading from the sea side to the main shrine at the top of the hill.

5. Yutoku Inari Shrine
Located in the city of Kashima in Saga Prefecture, Yutoku Inari Shrine is loved by many tourists for its beautiful architecture. Although relatively new compared to the other shrines on this list (built in 1687), Yutoku Inari Shrine is extremely popular and one of Japan's top three Inari shrines

6. Keihin Fushimi Inari Shrine
Built shortly after the end of World War II in Kawasaki, Keihin Fushimi Inari is the newest shrine on this list, but also the closest to downtown Tokyo. Although smaller than other shrines, Keihin Fushimi is extremely unique with its Inari fox statues.
