Japanese vocabulary: When talking about my Family
If you want to talk about your family, you can use the words above to describe your family member in Japanese.
- 家族(かぞく): A group formed by blood relationship or marriage. Including father, mother, brothers.
- 父(ちち): biological father or adoptive father.
- 母(はは): Birth mother or adoptive mother.
- 兄弟姉妹(きょうだい): Siblings of the same parents or siblings. Called "兄(あに)" (older brother), "弟(おとうと)" (younger brother), "姉(あね)" (sister), "妹(いもうと)" (sister) depending on depends on the number of brothers.
- 祖父(そふ): Grandfather (his father's father).
- 祖母(そぼ): Grandma (his father's mother).
- 祖父母(そふぼ): Grandparent (father of father and mother of father).
- 子供(こども): Children.
- 夫(おっと): Husband (after marriage).
- 妻(つま): Wife (after marriage).
- 親戚(しんせき): Relatives, relatives.

- 義理の母(ぎりのはは): Mother-in-law (if you are a boy) or mother-in-law (if you are a girl).
- 義理の兄弟姉妹(ぎりのきょうだい): Brother-in-law (if you are a boy) or brother-in-law (if you are a girl).
- 父方(ちちかた): Father's side.
- 母方(ははかた): Mother's side.
For example, you can use these words to talk about your family member in the presentation.
